My recent home upgrade in Reading

I needed a fitted bar after hosting a gathering where we ran out space. I decided to look near the Oracle Shopping Centre.

I stumbled upon the website while browsing and emailed photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens responded with a quote that felt fair for the work.

The journey of organising this project was actually quite involved. I dedicated many days reflecting on the layout of the space before ever choosing up the device. My living area has always felt a bit unfinished, and owning a dedicated area for beverages felt like the perfect fix to that issue. I remember standing in my kitchen looking at a messy countertop covered with glassware and realising that something had to change. The initial conversation with the team was extremely simple, which provided me assurance. We discussed various aesthetics, from modern sleek looks to more traditional and wooden finishes. I was really impressed by how many information they wanted regarding the dimensions and the existing interior of my house. It felt like they genuinely wanted the finished result to match seamlessly with the balance of the property. I provided multiple angles in the images I uploaded, making sure each corner was clear. They explained that the bespoke nature of the furniture meant that accuracy was absolutely critical to prevent any issues throughout the fitting. We went back and forth on potential resources, looking at samples of laminate and various types of timber grain. It is surprising how many consideration goes into picking the right hardware, like pulls and fittings, which can completely change the feel of the entire build. I wanted a place where I might comfortably prepare drinks for friends without needing to repeatedly dash back to the kitchen for lemons or glasses. The convenience of possessing everything in a single spot was the main reason for this purchase. We settled the blueprint following a brief meeting where all my concerns regarding plumbing and electric sockets were answered. I liked that they didn't rush the planning stage, taking the time to ensure that the depth of the shelving was enough for my tallest bottles. It felt like a joint process instead than a simple sale, which is rare to find nowadays.

The fitting day arrived sooner than anticipated, and the fitter was on time and prepared. He started by placing down safety covers to make sure my carpet stayed clean. Watching the parts being unpacked was interesting, as the standard of the wood was instantly evident. He carefully verified the levels of the walls before attaching the main frame of the bar. I observed as the skeleton slowly took shape, transforming a boring corner into a functional piece. The degree of craftsmanship involved in fitting the boards to the wonky surfaces of my period home was impressive. He mentioned why each section slotted in to create maximum strength. We spent a bit of duration choosing on the final position for the integrated fridge, ensuring it was easy to open but hidden back from direct sight. The installation of the counter was the most rewarding moment of the entire process. Seeing the polished surface finally resting on the base made the vision feel real. He next fitted the glass backing, which immediately caused the space to look double the breadth. The LEDs were connected next, and testing them for the first moment was a thrill. The soft glow below the racks highlighted the glassware perfectly. I could see exactly how useful this would be for night parties. The worker was highly diligent, taking the time to wipe down each surface and remove any dust made during the drilling. He also showed me the way to adjust the shelves should I ever needed to house bigger pieces. The attention to detail was truly great, right down to the silicone beads along the edges. It was obvious that he took great pride in his work, which is always good to see. We did a last walkthrough of the completed installation to make all was perfect. I noted that a single handle was slightly loose, and he tightened it immediately with a quick twist of a screwdriver. This thoroughness is just what I was looking for when I booked the service.

The finished bar appears completely stunning and has become the main feature of my home. It provides a sophisticated vibe that had been formerly lacking from my reception space. The capacity is huge, enabling me to organise all my spirits, mixers, and specialist glassware in a unified unit. No more do I have to search through cramped kitchen cabinets to locate a bottle opener or a specific type of glass. Everything has its proper home, which makes hosting much much simpler and relaxing. I enjoy the way the materials reflect the light in the afternoons, creating a warm atmosphere. My guests have already complimented the design multiple occasions, with some actually asking for the details of the people who built it. It really feels like a bespoke extra made specifically for my needs. The elevation of the countertop is ideal for leaning around with a glass, and the integrated LED strips provide just the right level of illumination without being overpowering. Even when not in operation, it serves as a beautiful item of cabinetry that elevates the entire look of the property. I spent some time placing my collection on the racks to make a pleasing display. The glass panels truly help in displaying the labels and adding dimension to the small space. It has inspired me to experiment creating new drinks that I before thought were too complicated to attempt in a normal kitchen. Having the sink nearby would have been nice, but the space constraints resulted in we decided against it to save storage space. This was a deliberate choice we took during the design stage, and I certainly not rue it. The extra drawer room for straws and tools is far more valuable to me in the long term.

There were a few of minor drawbacks that are fair to mentioning for a honest view. The wait time for the custom panels was a little longer than I originally hoped. It lasted about six days from the fitted bar initial payment to the final installation appointment. While this is expected for tailored furniture, it meant a bit of waiting on my part. I had hoped to have it ready for a specific event, but we missed that deadline by a few days. However, the communication from the team about the delay were regular, so I was not kept in the dark. I would wait a little more for a product that is built to last than receive a hasty job that fails after a few months. The start price quote was also a little lower than the total invoice, mostly because I chose to improve the hardware and add extra internal lights midway during the build. These changes were entirely my choice, and the team was very transparent about the additional fees involved. Another small issue was the amount of boxes remaining following the fitting. Although the worker cleaned up the build area perfectly, there was a significant pile of cardboard to get rid of in my bins. It wasn't a big deal, but something to keep in mind if you have limited bin space. Despite these minor details, the total journey was very positive. The standard of the finish is far superior to anything I could have bought off-the-shelf. It seems solid and well-constructed, and I am sure it will handle decades of parties. I believe the value it has given to my home far exceeds the upfront outlay. It has changed the way I enjoy my living area, making it far more inviting. I no longer sense cluttered when friends come over.

Reflecting back on the whole experience, I am truly happy I opted ahead with it. The first spark originated from a trip to a neighbour's house in London, where they had a comparable bar. I realised then how greatly it improved the movement of the evening. When I returned to Reading, I began researching local options and found that working with a bespoke provider was the best route to achieve the precise style I desired. The chance to pick every detail, from the shade of the stain to the position of the power sockets, made the end product was just as I pictured. I even got a small secret compartment included for storing expensive tools like silver stirrers. This kind of personalisation is what renders the experience special. It did not feel like a generic item being fitted into a room where it did not belong. Instead, it feels like it has forever been a part of the architecture. If you are considering a like-minded home improvement, my advice would be to remain patient and invest the effort on the design part. It is much easier to alter a drawing than it is to modify a unit once it is built. The expertise offered during the start was invaluable in stopping me from making simple mistakes, such as placing the fridge too close to a radiator. These small bits of advice are what you pay for when you hire experienced experts. I am now planning at different parts of my home to see where else I might install fitted solutions. The success of this fitted project has provided me the drive to start a larger renovation in the kitchen next year. It has been a great addition to my daily routine, and I view ahead to numerous years of enjoying it with family and friends. Finding the proper balance between looks and use was the goal, and I think we achieved it perfectly. The process from a messy alcove to a stylish social point was well deserving the effort and investment required. I now possess a home that I am really proud to share with to visitors. Reading has many great places to visit for a drink, but honestly, I now favour being at my place and using my own private bar. It offers the identical atmosphere without the crowds or the travel. That itself was deserving the entire project. I am very happy with how the ambience works in the evening, providing a relaxing space to relax after a long day at the office. It is the small treats like this that render home life much rewarding and fulfilling. I highly value the workmanship that went into the final result. The manner the panels close with a silent thud tells volumes about the build quality. No detail was ignored, and the final appearance is precisely what I needed it would be when I originally started this adventure. It is a testament to the skill of the team and the standard of the components utilised. I am a truly happy client.
